Project Goals and Objectives

Overall Objectives:
  • Harmonization of doctoral education in Ukraine and Georgia with Bologna principles as implemented in the EHEA;
  • Improvement in research output quality through integration of Ukrainian and Georgian researchers into ERA.

 

Specific Objectives:
  • To establish 2 model Doctoral Schools (one in Ukraine and one in Georgia), operating in accordance with Bologna principles;
  • To deliver 5 nationally and internationally recognized EHEA compliant PhD programmes in each Doctoral School;
  • To internationalise all aspects of doctoral education and research;
  • To introduce skills, methods, and thematic curricula and doctoral-level teaching methods to the partner countries;
  • To disseminate the benefits of structured PhD programmes to a broad regional stakeholder base by providing a localized example of best practice 3rd cycle reform implementation;
  • To realise a centralised organisational concept that is based on university autonomy and efficiently serves all academic and administrative needs of success oriented graduate studies
 

Project Activities

  • Establishment of best practice principles and workflow procedures for Doctoral School operations in Georgia and Ukraine, their presentation as a working model to HE stakeholders;
  • Pre-accreditation (quality auditing) of functioning EHEA-compliant structured PhD programmes in each Doctoral School in 5 topic areas: humanities, health sciences, economics, social sciences, environmental sciences;
  • Formation of five functioning thematic research groups that are integrated into the European Research Area (ERA) Development of PhD level curricula for research methods and  transferable skills courses adapted to each country;
  • Training of academic staff in supervision, administration, doctoral level teaching and career guidance;
  • Lobbying for EHEA 3rd cycle model acceptance by Georgian and Ukrainian stakeholders, and subsequent systemic reform.
